Nearly 100 years ago, in 1923, the architect and researcher Dr. Axel Eriksson invented in Sweden "steam cured gas concrete" - now known as aereated concrete. Together with Carl August Carlén, an entrepreneur, they started the first production 1929 in Yxhult in southern Sweden during times of great scarcity of raw materials and stricter energy laws. The original name "Yxhults Anghärdade Gasbetong" soon became the world's first registered building material brand, which under the name of Ytong made a worldwide career and changed building in a lasting way.
